There is a plethora of PoW, PPoS and Threshold Relay cryptocurrencies and blockchains attracting attention right now. The most popular incude Ethereum, Algorand, Solana, PolkaDOT, Avalanche, Dfinity.
We can compare the blockchains and their respective cryptocurrencies on a few common traits. These include when the blockchain was created, the consensus protocol, scalability solutions, the nodes running on the network, the transaction finality or how long it takes to process a transaction, the blocks per second, the total number of transactions per second, validation accessibility, interoperability scores, and transaction fees.
The oldest cryptocurrency on the list is Ethereum. However, Ethereum remains a PoW solution which is energy intensive and leads to higher gas fees. That’s why it’s transaction fees are exponentially more than the alternative cryptocurrencies. Some people believe this will lead to the downfall of Ethereum. Zhu Su tweeted that: “Yes I have abandoned Ethereum despite supporting it in the past. Yes Ethereum has abandoned its users despite supporting them in the past. The idea of sitting around jerking off watching the burn and concocting purity tests, while zero newcomers can afford the chain, is gross.”
